Fingerstyle excercise
Hold down a G chord. Alternate your thumb from the 6th string(E) to the 4th string(D). Add Count. While plucking the 6th string say "one" and while plucking the 4th string say "And". Do a four count. "One and two and three and four and". Keep repeating till thumb becomes automatic.
Without stopping thumb, with your index fingers pluck the 3rd string(G) on the numbers one, two, three and four, which are the downbeats. So the thumb and index finger will hit at the same time when the thumb hits the 6th string. Than pluck the index on the "ands", which are the upbeats. Here the thumb and index finger will hit at the same time on the 4th string, giving you an upbeat feel. Than repeat excersice with middle finder on the 2nd(B) string. And the ring finger on the 1st(E) string. This will help you gain independence between your thumb(Bass) and fingers (melody).
